Dolly, our chicken, came to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue as a rescued egg and hatched here on August 11, 2025. CWR doesn’t usually hatch eggs but when a mother hen comes to us with eggs, we make sure the eggs are cared for because moved parents abandon them and won’t re-set on them. So Dolly hatched at the rescue as one of four chicks from rescued eggs, and she has never lived anywhere else.
Ask anyone on the team and they’ll tell you, Dolly is the staff favorite chicken. She waits at the clinic door asking to come inside and anywhere there are people, Dolly wants to be there too. Her favorite spot is the laundry room where she lays her eggs on the towel rack and “helps” with the laundry! After she’s laid an egg, she lets people carry her around in the rescue’s wearable chicken carriers. In her own words: “Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is the only home I’ve ever known and bok bok, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
Give a gift with a cluck! Your sponsorship of Dolly helps provide her food, expert veterinary care, and a safe home for life at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.
