Caliope, our copperhead snake, was brought to us from Walkertown, North Carolina on August 28, 2026. Her found history is three words long: "Hit by shovel." Her lacerations healed but the attack had also severely broken her jaw, and it healed in such a way that she can't open her mouth as much as she should. Because of this, she needs assisted feeding. She could never survive in the wild because her caretakers have to help her with every meal.
Caliope stays in her quiet home in the rescue's office where her people admire her from a respectful distance, which is exactly how a copperhead likes it. Copperheads are shy, important neighbors, best admired from afar. If you ever meet one of her wild cousins, stop, step back, give it room, and call a relocator. Never a shovel! In her own words: "Carolina Waterfowl Rescue sssssssssssaved me!"
Give a gift with a wild heart! Your sponsorship of Caliope helps provide her food, expert veterinary care, and a safe home for life at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.
